This website is designed by Dr. William Coggshall to advance reporting about bees, honey and beeswax in the 21st Century.
About one-third of the human diet comes from insect-pollinated plants, and honeybees are responsible for 80 percent of that pollination (more than $15 billion).
President Barack Obama’s 2015 budget included $50 Million to reverse the loss of pollinators and improve their health.
Bees Secrete Honey and Wax.
Honey is in many foods (whole wheat bread, sliced ham, and mustard) and often is the “feature” that helps sell those foods.
For almost 5,000 years, Honey has also been used in wine, called “mead”.
Traditional mead is mostly made from honey, water and yeast, with ABV 7.5 to 14%. Sock Mead has higher ABV from 14 to 18%.
One well known mead brand is made by Bunratty Meade Company (Ireland).
Cornell University became a hub of research and information about beekeeping.
William L. Coggshall Sr. and a Cornell colleague Roger A. Morse wrote the book“BEESWAX: Production, Harvesting, Processing and Products.
