This paper “Buzzing with Intelligence: Current Issues in Apiculture and the Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Tackle It” describes how AI systems have helped improve the scientific aspects of apiculture, such as managing hives, maintaining health, detecting pests and monitoring habitats. Some systems use acoustic as well as video monitoring of the hives.

The paper describes the shortcomings of the existing AI applications. The authors suggest that the machine learning algorithms for monitoring beehives need to be tested on a larger and faster scale.
