Mead Recipe Favored by Queen Elizabeth I

Charles Bulter, the “Father of English Beekeeping” was a logician, grammarian, apiarist and Queen Elizabeth I’s beekeeper. In his 1609 book The Feminine Monarchie or The Historie of Bees, Butler detailed the Queen’s favorite mead recipe. The recipe has been adapted by several mead makers. The original recipe is below it includes ginger, lemon peel, yeast, rosemary, honey, and eggs.
